Johan van der Linden (1961) studeerde in 1983 af voor Uitvoerend Musicus Saxofoon bij Ed Boogaard aan het Sweelinck Conservatorium in Amsterdam. Volgde masterclasses bij o.a. Iwan Roth, Daniel Defayet, Frederik Hemke, Francois Daneels. In 1982 richtte hij samen met collega’s het Aurelia Saxofoonkwartet op. Dit Saxofoonkwartet is uitgegroeid tot één van de toonaangevende kamermuziekensembles in de wereld. Het Aurelia heeft 9 cds op zijn naam staan en vele buitenlandse tournees naar o.a. Ierland, Duitsland, Canada, Indonesië, Amerika en Japan. In 2013 heeft Johan na 31 vruchtbare jaren het kwartet verlaten. Van 1982 t/m 1990 was Johan van der Linden aangesteld als Saxofonist van de Koninklijke Militaire Kapel in Den Haag.
Johan is jarenlang hoofdvakdocent geweest op diverse conservatoria en nog altijd geeft hij masterclasses in binnen- en buitenland.
Johan is kernlid van het Nederlands Blazers Ensemble en speelde en speelt daarnaast veel als freelance saxofonist bij: Koninklijk Concertgebouw Orkest, Rotterdams Philharmonisch Orkest, Residentie Orkest, Radio Philharmonisch Orkest.
Johan is verder componist en arrangeur en heeft veel werk uitgegeven bij de uitgevers, Molenaar Edition, Donemus, Tierolff muziekcentrale en G.M.F.
Met de pianist Henry Kelder heeft hij een duo (Lind’n Kelder) dat zich richt op speciaal voor het duo geschreven nieuwe muziek ondergebracht bijMatching Arts.
Samen met zijn vrouw Elske te Lindert vormt hij het duo ‘Flor de Tilo’.
Johan was Splendoriaan van het eerste uur. De plek waar kunstenaars en publiek elkaar inspireren.
Johan is endorser van Sequoia saxophones Lemonde, Silverstein, LeFreque and D’Addario.

Attended master classes with Iwan Roth, Daniel Defayet, Frederik Hemke, Francois Daneels, among others. In 1982 he founded the Aurelia Saxophone Quartet together with colleagues. This saxophone quartet has become one of the leading chamber music ensembles in the world. The Aurelia has 9 CDs to its name and many foreign tours to Ireland, Germany, Canada, Indonesia, America and Japan, among others. In 2013, Johan left the quartet after 31 fruitful years.
From 1982 to 1990, Johan van der Linden was appointed saxophonist of the Royal Military Band in The Hague.
For very many years Johan was a principal subject teacher of Saxophone at several Conservatories. And until now he is a valued masterclass-teacher, all over the world.
Van der Linden works as a freelance saxophonist with: Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, Residentie Orchestra, Radio Philharmonic Orchestra.
Johan is a core member of the Nederlands Blazers Ensemble www.nbe.nl.
In addition to the busy performance and teaching practice and masterclasses, Van der Linden is also a composer and many of his pieces are published with Molenaar Edition, Donemus, Tierolff Muziekcentrale and G.M.F.
